How Do You Become Your "Brilliant Self"? A Top Speaker Answers...

Motivational Speaker Simon T. Bailey Has the Answer

“You can either feed your fear or your confidence… If you feed your confidence, you will become your brilliant self,” according to motivational speaker Simon T. Bailey at this year’s National Education Conference in Orlando, Florida. The conference was hosted by the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP), a national organization of 3,500 members dedicated to educating and organizing government meeting planners. Worldwide Speakers Group (WWSG), through our longstanding partnership with SGMP, has worked to provide keynote speakers for the conference for seven years.

Finding the perfect keynote for an event is always a challenge when you factor in the audience, the organization’s goals and the event theme, but it is a challenge that we happily embrace. WWSG Principal Dan Sims has a close relationship with SGMP and has helped provide a legacy of keynote speakers for its annual educational conferences:  Rear Admiral Marty Evans (USN, Ret), Keith Harrell, Erik Wahl, Juliet Funt, Captain Gerald Coffee, and John Alston. With his intimate knowledge of the speaking industry, Dan knew that Simon T. Bailey would be an ideal fit for this year’s event.

Speaker Simon T. Bailey delivered a motivating address about "owning the moment" and becoming your “brilliant self,” drawing upon his insights from years of working as Sales Director for the Disney Institute. He challenged his audience to seize the opportunity at every trial, because “failure is not a setback; it is a set up for something else better.”

So what does it take to be your brilliant self? According to Simon T. Bailey, you need to be confident in yourself, your actions and your decisions in addition to owning the moment by always being mentally present in what is happening around you. He challenged attendees to hold each other accountable and to spend time contemplating the following questions:

  • Where have you been?Simon T Bailey SGMP
  • Why are you here?
  • What can you do?
  • Where are you going?

Although these questions are simple in nature, they beg us to continue to assess our developmental progress.

The connection between Simon and his audience was powerful. All 800 attendees in the ballroom participated in his developmental exercises, and they walked away feeling very motivated and awe-inspired. SGMP was his ideal audience, comprised of middle management, meeting planners, and sales representatives. Simon gave his all, and the audience responded in-kind with a standing ovation.

After the keynote, the atmosphere was electric, as Simon T. Bailey’s enthusiasm and larger-than-life personality had rubbed off on the conference attendees. The WWSG booth was overwhelmed by excited attendees, and Simon immediately sold out of copies of his new book, Release Your Brilliance.

Once again, it was an honor for us to work with SGMP and Simon T. Bailey to orchestrate yet another successful conference. We look forward to working with SGMP and Simon T. Bailey again in the near future!  For questions about his speech or to get video of it, please contact Kelly Dieter at kdieter@wwsg.com.
