Last week, Senator Kamala Harris, a Democrat from California, made headlines when Republican senators interrupted her at a hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee while she interrogated Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The clip of the exchange went viral; journalists, politicians and everyday Americans debated what the shushing signified about our still sexist culture.

A battered but undeterred stay-at-home-mom stashing money into a cereal box to save enough to leave her abusive husband and protect her children. A man from Ethiopia who was not only brave enough to defy his community by opposing female genital mutilation (FGM), but who, after moving to the US, continues to call home to keep pressure on families to not cut their girls. These courageous individuals are among those with whom the AHA Foundation had the privilege to collaborate on leading trainings about honor violence over the past month.

The mission to end violence against girls is an ongoing campaign for Ayaan Hirsi Ali and the AHA Foundation. This organization was founded by Hirsi Ali and aims to end honor violence that shames, hurts, or kills millions of women across the globe.

The AHA Foundation is working to elevate the status of women globally by supporting women’s education initiatives and building campaigns that help create safer spaces in which women can work and live.

Every human rights event is enhanced with an audience hearing the first-hand experience of somebody who’s been on the ground floor of a humanitarian issue.
